Required Skills
Essential Functions/
Responsibilities:
Seriously collaborative, even with people not on our teams.
Able to work on a variety of projects at the same time.
Daily product decision making and real product delivery with product managers and developers.
Freedom to try out new design processes; in the spirit of agile, do what works, try new things, stop doing things that don't work; not a lot of constraints on the creative process.
Environment that encourages learning and growing as a professional and individual and infrastructure to support and motivate those goals.
All the designers have different skill-sets: you're not expected to be an expert in everything but having access to someone who probably is means we all get smarter by teaching and learning.
Maintain a user-centered approach in design perspective and practice.
Work as a collaborative team member with product management, developers, and fellow designers.
Lead products from discovery and framework through iterative development and delivery.
Help product managers assess and prioritize opportunities and constraints.
Guide product decisions through user research, consumer development, and iterative feedback loops.
Rapidly iterate on design prototypes and working products.
Conduct user testing, interviews, and analysis.
Develop visual identity systems, data visualizations, innovative interactions, visual design, and illustrations.
Produce materials for product management and developers, including user flows, wireframes, mockups, and product implementation guides.
Required Skills:
3
years working in a lean, product focused environment: You've embraced the complexities of technology platforms to conceive and build intuitive software products. You work shows an understanding of all the different possible outcomes of a given task within a product, and you were able to design for all of them.
Ownership: In previous roles you demonstrated complete ownership of projects. This was clear by the approach you took to get things started, the questions you asked along the way, the thoughtful way you guided designers on your team, and the executions you delivered.
Excellent communication and collaboration: You understand that great software products aren't designed by designers alone. You'll feel comfortable working with business, customer and engineering teams to gather the insights you need to make design decisions.
World class visual design: Your work is exceptional. This is demonstrated through product, interaction, and graphic designs that show a level of craft admired by all in the technology and design industries. The design sensibilities you bring to the role will push our style to the next level.
Understanding of HTML/CSS/JS, mobile platforms, and general IP technology: You understand how these languages, frameworks, and technologies work and complement each other to create elegant, flexible software and products. While you won't be asked to write our front-end code, you'll be working alongside engineers who you'll need to communicate and iterate with so an understanding of, respect for, and an ability to articulate these principles is key.
Prototyping: We employ smart, lean, continuous design methods. Part of this is validating concepts with prototyping tools; from paper, animation and interactive mock-ups. We always start with a pencil or at a whiteboard. We only end when we have actual user feedback to validate our hypothesis.
Research methods: Product design is best tackled with a plan. Research plays a key role here; from interview design to analysis frameworks. You should have a track record of using these tools to help your team figure out how your products and services fit into the lives, and add value to your customers.
